One of the reasons that make poker so popular is not great odds, free
poker chips and a chance to compete against other players but the idea
that there is no such game as poker. Poker comes in so many variations,
that it is often difficult to say that they come from the same game
origin.
In straight poker complete hand dealt to the players and only one round
of betting allowed, whereas in draw poker games complete hand dealt
face down and only after the betting is completed players can discard
unwanted cards.
The golden variation for casino poker
is stud poker, where cards are dealt in streets - combination of
face-down and face up rounds. The variation of the stud often played in
online poker rooms is community card poker, where an incomplete hand is
dealt face-down and a number of 'community' cards are dealt face-up.
Community cards can be used by any one or more players to make a
complete 5-card hand.
Two best-known community card poker variants are Texas Holdem and
Omaha. In both of them there are five community cards, but in Texas
Holdem two cards are dealt face-down and in Omaha there are four. The
greatest difference between the two is that Texas Holdem
strategy allows using different combinations of the player’s
and community cards, whereas in Omaha player has to use exactly two of
his cards and exactly three community cards. Therefore, even though
Omaha poker odds are easier to calculate with four cards on hand, it is
more difficult to play, as if you have three or four cards that make a
strong hand (two pairs for example), you can use only two of them
making the complete hand.
